What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?Solution focused hypnotherapy (SFH) is a gentle therapy. It helps you remove the obstacles, fears and frustrations you have, enabling you to take back control of your life and create the future you want. SFH is a safe and powerful combination of Psychotherapy which uses elements of Solution Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)) and Hypnosis. Supported by Neuroscientific research into how the brain works, these strategies help people make positive changes in a relatively short time frame. Psychotherapy is the talking part, where you’re encouraged to focus on the positive aspects of your life, we: acknowledge where you are now identify what your goal is work together to bring about those changes Although psychotherapy, in itself, is highly beneficial solution focused hypnotherapy enhances its effect by combining it with hypnosis. Hypnosis enables the subconscious mind to make the changes you are seeking – the goals that you set yourself. Sessions are a collaborative therapeutic alliance between you and your therapist to help you achieve the future you desire. Importantly, change happens because you want it to, and you are prepared to take the necessary steps to make it happen. I will work with you to help you to identify and focus on the changes you want. Most importantly, you will be pleased to know that you have all the resources within you to achieve the future you want!

Is Hypnosis like Hypnotism?Hypnosis or trance is not like hypnotism; there’ll be no clucking like a chicken! Hypnosis is where we use the trance like state to consolidate the changes/goals that you have identified and wish to move forward with. Trance is a deep state of focused attention, a daydream like state which we all do every day; when we’re running, listening to music, watching the television, when someone has been talking and you’ve no idea what they’ve been saying, reading a book and losing all track of time or just staring into space. During the trance hypnosis part of the sessions, you’ll be guided into a similar state so that beneficial positive suggestions can be directed into your subconscious mind where it is more responsive to suggestion. In a therapeutic setting, the suggestions are designed to help you change negative and unbeneficial thought patterns into positive productive ones.
-
Is Hypnosis Safe?Hypnosis or trance is completely safe. You are in complete control at all times, and you can stop the trance at any time just like you can with a daydream.

What happens during the Initial Consultation? The initial consultation is an information gathering and informative session. We’ll discuss what has brought you to me, what you’d like to achieve, and I’ll take a brief history. I will also explain how the brain works, why you are experiencing your symptoms and how solution focused hypnotherapy can help you achieve your desired outcome. We’ll also discuss how many sessions may be needed, bearing in mind that everyone is unique and the number of sessions can vary from one client to another. I’ll explain the structure of your future sessions and how we will work together via the Zoom online platform. And finally, I will send you my relaxation track for you to listen to every night before sleep. The relaxation track is an important part of the whole process and will help you achieve your desired outcome. Please be aware that no hypnotherapy occurs during the initial consultation session.

What happens in a Hypnotherapy session? Each hypnotherapy session has two parts to it, the talking part (psychotherapy) and the hypnosis part. The first part of each session we’ll talk about ‘what’s been good’ in the previous week. I will be encouraging you to express yourself positively, to think in a more positive way, to use more positive language and start to encourage a new thought process – focusing on solutions rather than problems. I will also explain how the brain works in more detail which will unlock a deeper understanding to enable you to make positive changes and add coping mechanisms to your ‘toolbox’. In the second part of the session you’ll imagine your preferred future, one where you are working towards that goal you desire. I’ll then guide you into a relaxed state of hypnosis/trance so that your mind can consolidate what we’ve discussed. You may hear some, all or none of what I say, which is absolutely fine as the subconscious mind listens to what it needs. Your brain will be working hard during this part of the session processing everything we’ve discussed. After hypnosis/trance many clients say they feel heavy, drowsy or like they’re floating, these feelings are absolutely normal. Clients also say that they feel very relaxed which is wonderful. Each session takes no more than an hour.

How do I get the most out of my Hypnotherapy sessions?Changes happen because you want them to, and you are prepared to take the required steps to make them happen therefore your engagement with sessions is essential.
-
What happens between sessions? To get the most out of hypnotherapy and to help you make progress it is important to play the relaxation track when you are ready to go to sleep as it will help reinforce the therapy. It may also be useful for you to write down ‘what’s been good’ during the week to help you focus on positive experiences. You may also wish to start a ‘Gratitude Journal’ to capture what you are grateful for. This is useful to reflect on the positive things we have in our lives that we may not consider often enough.
-
How often should I attend sessions? This is personal preference. The clients who get the quickest results attend weekly and listen to the relaxation track every night before going to sleep.

How does online Hypnotherapy work?Improvements in technology have now made our ability to connect with others online in real time possible. Online solution focused hypnotherapy sessions have proved to be just as effective as face-to-face sessions. The advantages to online hypnotherapy are that you will be accessing hypnotherapy in the familiarity and comfort of your own surroundings and there is no need to travel. Solution focused hypnotherapy sessions are accessed using the Zoom online platform which is easily downloaded onto your chosen device. Other video conferencing platforms can be used if preferred, although I have found Zoom to be the most reliable and support the interactive experience.
-
What do I need for an online Hypnotherapy session?A reliable internet connection A smartphone, computer, laptop or an iPad/tablet Your device needs to be positioned where you can see and hear me clearly and so that I can see and hear you too Headphones are optional but not essential, most people are happy to use the built-in microphone and audio on their device It’s helpful if you switch off or place any other devices out of the room so as not to distract or disturb you and to ensure you get the full benefit from the session A quiet, comfortable room where you will not be disturbed A bed, sofa or chair where you can completely relax and a blanket to ensure you are warm
